SAN JOSE, Calif., Nov. 9, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Synaptics Inc. (NASDAQ: SYNA), the leading developer of human interface solutions, today announced broader entry into the automotive market with a comprehensive and dedicated portfolio of vehicle-specific solutions that match the pace of consumer electronics human interface innovation. Synaptics' industry-leading touch controllers, display drivers, and biometric sensors are ideal for the automotive industry and will be implemented in numerous locations throughout the vehicle.
Leading OEM brands in Europe, Japan, and the United States are today in mass production with Synaptics' display driver integrated circuits (DDIC). These products are found in cluster displays, center information displays (CIDs), and heads-up displays (HUDs) with differentiating and proprietary features such as sunlight readability enhancement (SRE) and local area auto-contrast adjustment (LA ACO).
Expanding on its DDIC products, Synaptics has developed its new and broader automotive portfolio to meet the rigorous compliance standards required of the industry. This includes AEC-Q100 compliant ClearPad® touch controller design wins going to mass production in the first half of 2016, expanding our presence into China and Taiwan.
Synaptics' latest touch controller technology for autos supports touchscreens up to 17 inches and includes industry-leading features critical to ruggedness and weather conditions such as multi-finger touch, moisture immunity, thick glove usage -- and the only to support both proximity sensors and our patented ClearForce™ technology.
Natural ID™ fingerprint sensors round out Synaptics' new automotive portfolio with security and personalization usage targeting door handles, steering wheels and starter buttons. Biometric authentication of users allows unlocking of the vehicle, cockpit and mirror adjustments, ignition, entertainment preferences, as well as theft prevention.
"Global automotive OEMs reached out to us for our innovation and singular focus on human interface to apply the cutting edge technology from the fast paced world of mobile computing technology to the drivers and passengers of tomorrow's cars. As a proven leader we have made a significant investment in innovation, enabling rapid deployment into automotive with solutions optimized to meet customer requirements," said Huibert Verhoeven, senior vice president and general manager, Human Interface Systems Division and Automotive, Synaptics.
"An area with high innovation and differentiation potential during this stage of the connected-vehicle evolution continues to be user interface improvements. In particular, hardware and software innovations targeted at creating superior user experiences for accessing, creating and sharing of digital content in the vehicle have the potential for market leading innovations. This will include the usage of haptics, natural language processing and artificial intelligence-enabled technologies that will give users more reliable and targeted options of consuming relevant content in the vehicle, without jeopardizing safety and distraction-relation objectives," said Thilo Koslowski, vice president and distinguished analyst, Gartner.*
