"As part of our new marketing campaign, Solutions that Motivate, we wanted to identify how sales and marketing professionals are driving positive behaviors among their current and potential customer base," said Jim Speir, vice president of sales for SVM. "Conducting this survey gave us the ability to take a closer look at the programs in place and also explore areas of opportunity within customer reward and loyalty programs."
Results of the survey include:
- 87 percent of companies offer gift cards as part of their customer reward and loyalty programs.
- Gasoline gift cards and prepaid open-loop cards are the preferred types of cards offered.
- 84 percent of respondents find physical cards more rewarding than electronic cards.
- Despite the above, perceived future trends within loyalty and reward programs include increased use of digital cards, mobile vouchers and gasoline gift cards.
- Cost, measurement and perceived value among recipients are the top challenges in customer reward and loyalty programs.
- The majority of respondents think their customer reward and loyalty programs are successful, with 57 percent reporting they work well or extremely well.
- The most important criteria for reward and loyalty programs involve making customers feel valued and increasing acquisition, sales, loyalty and retention.
