OWINGS MILLS, Md., Dec. 15, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Chesapeake Urology's Summit Ambulatory Surgery Centers recently received re-accreditation by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, Inc. (AAAHC). Chesapeake Urology (Chesapeake) has 14 AAAHC-certified ambulatory surgery centers located throughout Maryland.
Accreditation is a process that must be renewed every three years by the AAAHC, the nation's leading accrediting organization of outpatient facilities. Through the accreditation process, Chesapeake's surgical centers underwent rigorous professional scrutiny by highly qualified AAAHC professionals and were found to provide high quality care.
The re-accreditation process included: On-site visits by experienced AAAHC health care professionals; Measurements against nationally recognized standards of care; Demonstration of a strong commitment to maintaining patient safety; Dedication to protecting patient privacy; And adherence to all federal, state and local laws and to AAAHC standards for patient care.
The Summit ASC accreditation letter states that, "Granting accreditation reflects confidence, based on evidence from this recent survey that the company meets, and will continue to demonstrate throughout the accreditation term, the attributes of an accreditable organization, as reflected in the standards found in the Accreditation Handbook for Ambulatory Health Care."
The re-accreditation letter also recognizes that, "The dedication and effort necessary for an organization to be accredited is substantial and the compliance with those standards implies a commitment to continual self-evaluation and continuous improvement."
"Each of the Summit team members maintains these high standards on a daily basis, and the re-accreditation is a team accomplishment," explained Stacy Zemencik, Director of Nursing at Chesapeake Urology. Stacy coordinated the re-accreditation effort on behalf of Summit ASC along with Clinical Director, Dr. Brad Lerner, Regional Nurse Directors, Erica Maytas, RN, and Jeanette Class, RN and staff from both Summit and Chesapeake Urology. She stressed that the groundwork for reaccreditation is laid on a daily basis, not just at survey time. "It takes everyone's continuous commitment to excellence and quality care to meet and maintain the high standards for re-accreditation."
