Sterne School in San Francisco Undergoing Historic Advancement
SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Sterne School, a premier, independent day school in San Francisco dedicated exclusively to educating students with learning differences (LD), is in the midst of a pivotal expansion. To support the rising number of students with LD, and continue to serve as a leader in LD education, the Sterne School Board of Directors resolved to launch its first Capital Campaign in nearly 20 years: Great Minds, Thinking Differently.
Great Minds, Thinking Differently is committed to advancing the school's mission - educating students with learning differences and providing them with the skills and strategies necessary to reach their academic potential, via three key pillars: facility, program, and resources. Since the launch of the campaign in January, milestones include: the acquisition of a new facility for the High School; renovations to the Middle School site; integration of 21st Century technology into all classrooms; a renewed emphasis on wellness and the brain-body connection; and a nationally recognized learning expert on staff.
On August 18th, Sterne School hosted an Open House Celebration at its new High School location, 245 Valencia Street in San Francisco's vibrant Valencia Corridor. Sterne faculty, board members, and Head of School, Ed McManis, welcomed students, families, education specialists, peer schools, alumni, donors, and neighbors for an afternoon of acknowledgments, an overview of the invigorated curriculum, tours, and lunch catered by the local and ever popular food truck, El Tonayense. Attendees were thrilled to see the new facility, with its sleek and modern design, gymnasium, and numerous collaborative work spaces – all of which better accommodate a high-school age population.
"We are all thrilled with the successes of the Campaign thus far – including the new High School facility which enables us to serve MORE students who will benefit from our highly tailored program. As we expand and enrich our curriculum with technology, co-curricular programming, and student support services, and invest in educational resources that best serve our students, we reinforce our commitment to the unique learners and families of the Bay Area," stated Carrie Messina, Board Member and Chair of the Capital Campaign.
Sterne School is a nationally recognized, WASC accredited, independent co-ed day school committed to educating students with learning differences. Through a hands-on and individualized program that focuses on academic and social development, Sterne is dedicated to educating its students for the challenges of life.
