Weakley comes to SGO from Computer Sciences Corp. in Falls Church, Va., where he has served as president of the company's Defense Group since 2011.
"This is a great addition to our SGO team," said Matt Kaye, SGO chief executive officer. "We're growing and diversifying into new lines of business. Alan brings a powerful set of skills and experience that will enable us to expand SGO's global footprint and build our operations.
"Alan's breadth of knowledge in running organizations and his proven leadership in bringing about strategic growth will be major factors contributing to the success of Sterling Global Operations' strategic plan.
"Alan is well known in our industry for his abilities and accomplishments," Kaye added. "We're glad he's becoming an integral part of our team and we look forward to great things for our company."
Weakley's first day on the SGO job was Monday, Sept. 23. He said his decision to become SGO's president is grounded in the company's past performance and the growth he sees in the future.
"I've been familiar with SGO for some time," said Weakley. "The company has done terrific work and has a great reputation around the world for protecting the lives of American military personnel, U.S. interests, and making the world a safer place by removing landmines and other explosive remnants of war.
"Now SGO has moved into supporting the oil and natural gas industry, and it's developing other new lines of business as well," Weakley said. "The company's long-term potential is enormous, and helping it reach that potential is exactly what I love to do. I'm also deeply impressed with SGO's ethics and values, which are strongly aligned with my own."
As head of CSC's Defense Group, Weakley supervised a $3 billion organization with more than 10,000 employees worldwide. The Group supported the U.S. Department of Defense, the Department of Energy, and other government agencies and departments worldwide with information technology, systems engineering, and mission support services.
From 2009 to 2011, he was president of the more than $1 billion CSC Applied Technology Group, a mission support services organization. Weakley led more than 8,000 employees who worked under U.S. government contracts for base operations support services; training services; aviation maintenance; and tactical and training range operation services around the globe.
Other positions he has held in his career include vice president and general manager, Engineering & Technology Services, for the URS Corporation in Maryland, and as a director of multiple divisions for EG&G Federal Services in Virginia.
Weakley received his undergraduate degree in Computer Information Systems from Strayer College, Washington, D.C. He earned his master's degree in Engineering Management from The George Washington University, also in Washington.
From 1980 - 1986 Weakley was in the U.S. Navy, serving aboard two fast attack nuclear-powered submarines.
