Staying Cool with the Magnolia Health Fan Club Program
JACKSON, Miss., Sept. 13, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Magnolia Health, a leading provider of health care coverage that improves care across Mississippi, is offering their "Fan Club" program again this year to help combat the deadly heat during the hottest months of the year.
The new "Fan Club" program runs from June through September and offers some relief to Magnolia members by providing free fan(s) to those who do not have air conditioning or an operating fan. The program is specifically designed for members who suffer from pulmonary and heart diseases such as asthma, COPD, emphysema, and/or congestive heart failure (CHF).
"Heat related symptoms can exacerbate many chronic conditions for our members, especially those with pulmonary and heart conditions. Magnolia's goal is to help our members stay more comfortable in their homes and stay healthier during the hot summer months," said Paula Whitfield, Magnolia's VP of Medical Management.
Not only is summer heat unbearable, but it is also dangerous. The plan has already assisted over 31 Magnolia families with fans, which were delivered by the MemberConnections® team. MemberConnections is a special program that connects Mississippians to community groups and helps them get the care they need.
Recently, Magnolia delivered a fan to a member on oxygen therapy, whose home had reached over 100 degrees upon arrival. "After plugging in the fan, the room began to cool down immediately and the member was looking forward to a good night's sleep," said Tekemia Latham, MemberConnections supervisor.
At the end of the program, follow-up will be done on the members receiving the fans to see if there was an impact on health outcomes and to reassess for any further needs. For more information about the "Fan Club" program, call 1-866-912-6285.
