State Museum of Pennsylvania Announces January 2012 Highlights
HARRISBURG, Pa., Dec. 21, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The State Museum of Pennsylvania today announced its program schedule for January 2012:
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Program: Nathaniel Gadsden's Writers Wordshop will present "The Principles of Peace: Remembering King" on Sunday, Jan. 15 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at The State Museum. The program will focus on Dr. Martin Luther King's vision to lead a revolution for social justice, equality and civil rights for all people, using principles of peace and reconciliation. The program is free to the public and the museum admission will be free that day.
3rd in the Burg—Book Signing Event: On Friday, Jan. 20, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., The State Museum Store will host a book signing and reception honoring Franklin L. Kury, author of the new book "Clean Politics, Clean Streams: A Legislative Autobiography and Reflections." A resident of the Harrisburg area, Kury is a former Pennsylvania state legislator and deputy state attorney general who is well-known as a leader in environmental and reform legislative efforts. The event, sponsored by the Pennsylvania Heritage Society, is free and open to the public.

"Oasis in Space" (Grade 4 and up). Is Earth the only water world in our Solar System? Take an exciting flight through our Solar System in search of water and water worlds like Earth. Saturdays - 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.; Sundays - 1 p.m.
"BIG" (Grade 6 and up). Experience how big the universe really is! Travel through space and time to take a look at the relationship between distance and time in the universe. Narrated by Sir Richard Attenborough. Saturdays - noon and 2 p.m.; Sundays - 2 p.m.
The State Museum Store: The newly expanded State Museum Store is now open, offering an array of Pennsylvania-themed products and gift items for all ages. The State Museum Store is located on the ground floor of The State Museum. State Museum Affiliate Members and Pennsylvania Heritage Society members receive 10 percent off purchases at the store. Admission to the store is free. The shop is open Wednesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Sunday, 1 to 4 p.m.
Closed Jan. 16: The State Museum's administrative offices and galleries will be closed on Monday, Jan. 16, in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
The State Museum of Pennsylvania, adjacent to the State Capitol in Harrisburg, is one of 25 historic sites and museums administered by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission as part of the Pennsylvania Trails of History®. The State Museum offers expansive collections interpreting Pennsylvania's fascinating heritage.
