SSINA Releases Market Data For June 2011
WASHINGTON, Sept. 9, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Specialty Steel Industry of North America ("SSINA") has released statistical data on imports, U.S. consumption, and import penetration for YTD June 2011. The data represents U.S. consumption, imports, and import penetration for June 2011 compared to the same 2010 six month period.
The following data is presented by specialty steel product line, total stainless steel, and total specialty steel:
- Stainless steel sheet/strip: Imports in YTD June 2011 were 210,847 tons, a 20.7% increase compared to YTD June 2010; U.S. consumption was 836,401 tons, a 32.5% increase; six month import penetration was 25.2%, a 2.5 percentage point decrease from 2010.
- Stainless steel plate: Imports in YTD June 2011 were 82,958 tons, a 136.0% increase compared to YTD June 2010; U.S. consumption was 175,428 tons, a 53.9% increase; six month import penetration was 47.3%, an 16.5 percentage point increase from 2010.
- Stainless steel bar: Imports in YTD June 2011 were 73,149 tons, a 49.3% increase compared to YTD June 2010; U.S. consumption was 137,268 tons, a 34.6% increase; six month import penetration was 53.3%, a 5.2 percentage point increase from 2010.
- Stainless steel rod: Imports in YTD June 2011 were 15,509 tons, a 32.8% increase compared to YTD June 2010; U.S. consumption was 41,613 tons, a 36.5% increase; six month import penetration was 37.3%, a 1.0 percentage point decrease from 2010.
- Stainless steel wire: Imports in YTD June 2011 were 23,806 tons, a 11.9% increase compared to YTD June 2010; U.S. consumption was 28,496 tons, a 1.5% increase; six month import penetration was 83.5%, a 7.7 percentage point increase from 2010.
Imports of total stainless steel (comprising the foregoing product lines) in YTD June 2011 were 406,269 tons, a 39.2% increase compared to YTD June 2010; U.S. consumption was 1,219,207 tons, a 34.6% increase; six month import penetration was 33.3%, a 1.1 percentage point increase from 2010.
- Alloy tool steel: Imports in YTD June 2011 were 53,055 tons, a 52.4% increase compared to YTD June 2010; U.S. consumption and import penetration were not calculable.
- Electrical steel: Imports in YTD June 2011 were 55,031 tons, a 21.7% increase compared to YTD June 2010; U.S. consumption was 86,932 tons, a 17.0% decrease from YTD June 2010; six month import penetration was 63.3%, a 20.1 percentage point increase from 2010.
Imports of total specialty steel (comprising stainless steel, alloy tool steel and electrical steel) in YTD June 2011 were 514,354 tons, a 38.3% increase compared to YTD June 2010; U.S. consumption was 1,335,577 tons, a 29.4% increase; six month import penetration was 38.5%, a 2.5 percentage point increase from 2010.
