SRA Successfully Completes Upgrades to USDA Web Based Supply Chain Management System
FAIRFAX, Va., Oct. 28, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- SRA International, Inc., a leading provider of IT solutions and professional services to government organizations, announced the successful completion of system-enhancing updates to the US Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Web Based Supply Chain Management (WBSCM) system. These upgrades will help those in need within the U.S. and abroad receive food resources more efficiently.
In 2011, the USDA Agricultural Marketing Service, Food and Nutrition Service, Farm Service Agency, Foreign Agricultural Service, and the US Agency for International Development (USAID) launched a modern WBSCM system to help school lunch programs, food banks, and other groups in need more efficiently order and receive necessary food items. The SAP-based system provides an integrated commodity purchasing, tracking and ordering system for the agencies as well as customers, vendors, suppliers, and transportation personnel. Since its creation, WBSCM has facilitated the purchase of 8.5 billion pounds of domestically produced foods, and helped reduce the transportation costs by 11 percent.
The recent WBSCM improvements, led by an integrated team comprised of SRA, SAP NS2, and subcontracting partners upgraded six SAP applications and the supporting hardware/network infrastructure, meeting schedule and cost commitments. The work was performed primarily in Washington, DC, working closely with USDA, including National Information Technology Center (NITC) data centers, and General Services Administration (GSA) FEDSIM leadership. This upgrade of the WBSCM solution positions the USDA for the future by providing a solid foundation for improvements to both USDA and USAID food aid programs such as streamlining order entry and increasing procurement efficiencies.
Gil Dussek, Vice President within SRA's Health and Civil Group commented. "SRA is pleased to lend our significant software systems and engineering experience to help the USDA meet its challenge to deliver essential food aid to those in need both domestically and internationally."
