SportsManias Names Tim Stephens VP of Strategic Partnerships
Former Deputy Managing Editor at CBSSports.com to Expand Partnerships with Local Newspapers, Media Companies and Sports Leagues
MIAMI, Oct. 30, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- SportsManias, the diehard sports fan's go-to source for team news, announced today that Tim Stephens, former Deputy Managing Editor at CBSSports.com, will join SportsManias as Vice President of Strategic Partnerships. Stephens will focus on building alliances with local newspapers, sports media companies, teams and leagues in order to expand SportsManias' network of beat writers and bring diehard fans the best in sports journalism.
"We are very excited that Tim has joined SportsManias," said Aymara Del Aguila, co-founder of SportsManias. "His expertise at CBS Sports brings a great perspective to our development plans and his prior work at newspapers is a perfect fit for us. We're confident that Tim's relationships with publications and knowledge of the industry will accelerate outreach and take our newspaper partnerships nationwide."
Stephens, 45, most recently served as Deputy Managing Editor at CBSSports.com, where he helped shape the editorial direction for one of the nation's leading sports websites. Stephens worked collaboratively across all CBS entities delivering editorial content and leading innovations in desktop, mobile and app presentation. Under his direction, CBSSports.com writers set a company record for Associated Press Sports Editors (APSE) writing awards, set year-over-year website traffic records and grew their social media presence.
Before joining CBS in 2012, Stephens served as the Florida Sports Topics Manager for Tribune Co., leading the merger of the Orlando Sentinel and the South Florida Sun-Sentinel sports staffs under a single management structure that made it one of the largest departments in the United States. Both newspapers won multiple APSE awards during his tenure.
Stephens recently completed his term as president of the Associated Press Sports Editors, a tenure that was marked by the organization launching its first student chapters. He remains involved with APSE as a member of its executive committee and chairman of its Student Liaison Committee.
Stephens commented, "SportsManias connects the great work done by professional journalists with the hard-core fans who want it delivered to today's front porch – their smart phone, tablet or desktop – in one location, when they want it, how they want it and where they want it. It is a win-win for the journalist, the news organization and the audience. The goal is to become the digital gateway to newspapers, delivering their localized team news to the avid sports fan."
In addition to spearheading media partnerships, Stephens will assist in building SportsManias' new College Rep Program, an initiative to provide students with valuable experience in sports journalism, social media and digital entertainment early in their careers. Stephens will also participate in organizing and hosting the SportsManias Writers Conference, set to take place in Miami in fall 2015.
