SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 29, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- As Spark continues to transition towards a strategy, research, and integrated communications agency, distinguished researcher and futurist Stowe Boyd joins Spark as Head of Research. Boyd intends to work closely with Toby Trevarthen, Chief Narrative Officer, and with CEO Alan Soucy to direct company strategy to accommodate a deeper focus on research-driven activities.
Earlier in the year, prior to accepting a full time position, senior managers at Spark had recruited Boyd to offer his unique perspective on the state of the tech industry for various clients, as well as for Spark's new narrative division, Perpetual Studio. The demand on public relations and communications to look ahead of industry trends proved to be a driving factor to incorporate Boyd's future-focused messaging into Spark's Agile Narrative team.
"His new beginning is fuel to the emergence of Perpetual Studio - a new division within Spark that will focus on developing breakthrough narratives for companies that are in change, need change and or help with defining a new category that literally changes the existing status quo," shared Toby Trevarthen, Chief Narrative Officer at Spark. "Stowe will bring the futurist 'lean in' texture and research discipline to our Agile Narrative process that will enable us to take this vision to the next level. Today, every company is a challenger brand. Our respective quest is to find the unseen and undiscussed white space from which to mold a new beginning."
Boyd brings more than 25 years of research and analysis to his focus on the future of work, and the tectonic forces pushing business, media, and society into an unclear and accelerating 'postnormal' era. Boyd is joining Spark after six years at Gigaom, most recently as head of research, where he worked closely with clients like Microsoft, Google, IBM, Dell, and dozens of other tech leaders. He plans to deepen his involvement with a broader array of clients, moving beyond the technology sector, and integrating research into other client initiatives.
"It quickly became clear to me that a future-leaning researcher could do a great deal for Spark's existing clientele," said Boyd. "Just as importantly, I saw the leverage from connecting research with the strategy and integrated marketing communications activities to yield something greater than the sum of the parts."
Aside from his work at Gigaom and Corante, Boyd possesses an impressive personal brand. From his recognition as a futurist to coining everyday terms like "hashtag" and "social tools", Boyd shares insights on various channels, including his personal blog (stoweboyd.com), his medium publication (workfutures.io) , and Twitter (twitter.com/stoweboyd). Stowe is a sought-after speaker, and has presented at dozens of conferences in the past decade.
With his extensive experience and expertise in the realms of technology, media, and futures, Boyd proves himself to be an ideal fit as futurist to enhance Spark's overarching goals.
"We're thrilled to add Stowe to our team. The complexity of our clients' needs within the ever-changing media landscape are demanding more research and insights before marketing strategies take shape," said Alan Soucy, Chief Executive Officer of Spark. "His unique perspective on the industry today, and his informed outlook on the future, will add enormous value to our clients and the overall direction of Spark."
