Schizophrenia is a severe mental disorder characterized by positive symptoms, negative symptoms and thought disorder. Cognitive dysfunction is a further dimension of impairment that is recognized as a core feature and has clear relevance to real-life outcomes. Cognitive behavioral therapy for psychosis also reduces symptoms, especially in those patients who continue to suffer from one or more distressing symptoms despite remaining medication compliant; it also normalizes brain connectivity within relevant neural networks. Cognitive remediation training is found to enhance cognitive functioning and neural plasticity, particularly in the areas associated with working memory, executive control and emotion processing in people with schizophrenia. Very recently, studies have shown an association between mindfulness and more adaptive emotion regulation in schizophrenia.

She has over 250 publications in reputable psychology, psychiatry and neuroscience journals, with a current H index of 60 and over 11,000 cumulative citations.
