BRUSSELS, June 3, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- Sortlist (https://www.sortlist.com/) recently announced the release of its latest comprehensive study (https://www.sortlist.com/blog/smbs-website-2020-survey/) involving digitalization and online challenges experienced by a wide variety of small and medium businesses/organizations (SMBs) across Europe. With digitization increasing exponentially every year, businesses must address their online presence, reach, audience, and footprint, or risk becoming increasingly defunct. Spanning the countries of Belgium, France, Spain, Germany and the Netherlands, Sortlist worked to establish a baseline, asking 500 companies detailed questions about their current web presence and approach to digital outreach. Sortlist.com is a rapidly expanding, digitally native B2B platform that connects businesses with marketing providers all over the globe
"Digitalization and the internet have completely changed the business world – having a website is no longer a recommendation, it is a requirement," said Nicolas Finet. "And while this seems completely self-evident, what we've discovered is that many businesses are still lagging behind in so many ways. It is not enough to just have a website anymore; businesses and contractors must also engage and interact in a complex digital biome to remain competitive. And this is a nuanced practice, offering different meanings within different industries. Our study sought first to develop an understanding of where companies stand right now. We offer this so that companies can see this digital landscape much more clearly, but also as a way to help us serve our clients more efficiently."
Sortlist: Main Findings From "SMBs and Their Website in 2020"
The current global pandemic has underscored what many experts already knew about the future of global business: digitalization and online presence is crucial to remaining relevant. But though many speak of digital strategies, e-commerce, and reaching new customers online, the Sortlist study's findings indicate that far too many businesses are falling short of these goals. Centering on the European business landscape, the study surveyed 500 SMBs and posed a variety of questions, focusing on three central concerns:
- To what extent do European SMBs currently have a website?
- Which SMBs are most likely to have a website, based on turnover and nationality?
- On what business elements do SMBs attach the most importance, in order to improve their online presence and website functionality?
The main findings indicated that:
- 22% of SMBs do not yet have a website, with a direct correlation between SMB size and its chances of having a website. Budgetary concerns are a major factor.
- 38% of SMBs with current websites believe those sites should be more mobile friendly.
- SMBs consider creating quality web content as a top priority for 2020.
- Consumers have increased their online presence and commerce by well over 100%, with many reporting spending an average of 3-plus hours per day online.
Coupled with an estimated 51% of consumers reporting using Google to search for digital access to goods and services, and an even greater percentage reporting using Google to discover those new products and services, an established web presence is even more important than ever.
