SodaStream USA's Bubbles For Rio Contest Awards Gold Medals And Prizes To The Best Bellyflops And Cannonballs
With more than 7,000 Change.org signatures collected the sparkling water maker company triumphantly celebrates winners and all of its campaign supporters
MOUNT LAUREL, N.J., Sept. 1, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- SodaStream, the world's No. 1 sparkling water brand and the self-proclaimed "Official Sponsor of Bubbles," announced today that it collected more than 7,000 signatures on its Change.org petition in just under 50 days in its effort to persuade the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to add "The Bellyflop" and "The Cannonball" to the Rio 2016 diving lineup.
In seeking the official addition of these underrepresented "bubble-centric" dives to the Games, SodaStream pointed out that The Bellyflop and The Cannonball could help the IOC make the Olympics "tons more bubbly."
"While the Games in Rio were definitely full of excitement in an out of the pool, we at SodaStream wanted to see as many bubbles in the water as possible," said Emma Froelich-Shea, VP of Marketing for SodaStream USA. "Through 'Bubbles for Rio' we wanted to make more bubbles for everyone to enjoy."
To participate in the contest, SodaStream fans and bubble-loving contestants uploaded a photo or video of their best Cannonball and/or Bellyflop to the SodaStreamUSA Facebook page for a chance to take home a Gold Medal prize of $2,016. Videos or photos that were posted before midnight on August 21, 2016, the last day of the 2016 Summer Games, were reviewed by SodaStream's bubble-loving judges who crowned the winners based on each entry's "panache, bubbles and splash."
"Even though the IOC has not yet added these exciting diving sports to the games, there are now over 7,000 supporters and a groundswell of bubble-loving support to help make that happen by the Japan 2020 games," continued Froelich-Shea. "Both of our Gold Medal winners were chosen based not only on their bubble-loving athletic prowess but also for their enthusiasm in loving bubbles and water. Nothing makes us happier than bubbles, and we love to see bubbles making other people happy."
The Bubbles for Rio Gold Medal Bellyflop and Cannonball winners were Mandy S. of Michigan and Angela T. of Mississippi. Contestants James N., Jim S., Amanda B., Jennifer L., and Donna P. were randomly drawn winners of SodaStream Rio Bubble Bundles, each of which includes a SodaStream Source Sparkling Water Maker and Sparkling Drink Mixes in Orange Mango and Berry Mix flavors and retails for $112.99.
