SOCMA Announces Eighth Annual Washington Fly-In
TSCA Reform, Trade Promotion Authority Key Issues
WASHINGTON, April 13, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- With the anticipated introduction of a Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) reform bill in the House of Representatives and a Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) bill in the Senate, SOCMA members are gathering in the nation's capital next week to share their thoughts and concerns on these key issues and others that significantly impact specialty chemical manufacturing.
SOCMA members will convene in Washington April 21-22 for SOCMA's Eighth Annual Washington Fly-In – an opportunity for industry leaders to influence the direction of chemical policy through face-to-face meetings with lawmakers and their staff.
"We have anxiously awaited passage of TPA, a critical step in allowing our negotiators to conclude the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), and to have movement on this bill coincide with our Fly-In is fantastic timing for our members," said SOCMA President and CEO Lawrence D. Sloan. "This is a prime opportunity for them to encourage members of Congress to pass this important legislation that will allow specialty chemical manufacturers and all U.S. manufacturers to remain globally competitive."
The House is also expected to release its bipartisan TSCA reform bill any time. "TSCA reform remains a top policy priority for SOCMA, and the bipartisan effort in both chambers makes us more optimistic than ever that compromise is possible and TSCA reform can happen," Sloan said.
Our members will also push for passage of the Miscellaneous Tariff Bill, which could become part of the package currently in the works for TPA. SOCMA remains concerned about the stifling affect regulations can have on job creation and economic growth, and our members will urge Congress to ensure the economic impact of regulations are given equal weight to the perceived benefits of those regulations.
The Washington Fly-In is organized by SOCMA's grassroots arm, SOCMA CONNECT, which encourages members to support and help shape laws affecting specialty chemical manufacturers.
