Social Transit App Moovit Hits 1M Users; Announces Partnership With Vodafone Spain
NEW YORK, June 5, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
Moovit, the crowdsourced app for real-time public transit navigation, has hit 1 million users, more than doubling its user base in the last four months. This milestone comes as Moovit has just announced a cooperation with mobile carrier Vodafone Spain, as well as partnerships with various leading transit operators. See the infographic here.
Moovit is the first GPS app to harness the power of the crowd to improve public transit, using real-time user-generated information to make the public transport experience a smoother one. Moovit has more than doubled its user base since February of this year, after releasing its latest version of the app which makes it easy for users to personalize the app to get real-time info on their daily commute. Since beginning its international roll-out at the end of 2012, Moovit saw significant initial growth in Europe, followed by recent growth in the Americas, where Moovit plans to launch several new cities this month.
"Moovit is built on the concept that through the wisdom of the crowd, we can improve the day-to-day experience of public transit riders around the world," said Nir Erez, Moovit's CEO. "The success we've experienced affirms to us that people are hungry for real-time information that can help them make smarter choices about public transit."
In addition to schedules, trip planning, and step-by-step navigation, Moovit collects and shares crowdsourced data with the user community in real-time. Simply by riding with the application open, users contribute real-time speed and location data about their trip. Users can also send reports including overcrowding, cleanliness, and rankings. The more people use Moovit, the better the real-time data becomes, improving trip planning and navigation for the entire community.
"Across the over 40 markets we operate in, we've seen over and over again that the number one frustration facing passengers is uncertainty about their trip. When will the bus arrive? What's the best route right now?" said Nir Erez, Moovit CEO. "We can't make the bus get there faster. But by creating the best single source of real-time transit available, Moovit can make the trip a more pleasant one."
With over 1 million users worldwide, Moovit is currently available in over 40 cities around the world including New York, Los Angeles, Madrid, Barcelona, Rome, Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Tel Aviv, and the Netherlands, with recent launches in the UK, Paris, and Sydney. The app is free for iPhone and Android.
