Snickers Satisfies as ADBOWL(R) Voters' Favorite Super Bowl XLIV Commercial
CANDY BAR ENJOYS SWEET TASTE OF VICTORY IN TENTH ANNUAL CONSUMER RATING POLL
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., Feb. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- "You're Not You", the Snickers commercial featuring Betty White and Abe Vigoda, was voted consumers' favorite advertisement during Super Bowl XLIV according to ADBOWL® (www.ADBOWL.com), the original advertising ranking website and new iPhone App for consumers developed by McKee Wallwork Cleveland. ADBOWL has been tracking and reporting on consumer's opinions of the most anticipated ads of the year for the past decade.
As of 12 am EST*, the top 5 ads as ranked by ADBOWL voters on a five point scale were:
- "You're Not You" - Snickers
- "House Rules" - Doritos
- "Parisian Love" - Google
- "Punch Dub" - Volkswagen
- "Underdog" - Doritos
*Voting continues throughout the night. Up-to-the-minute tallies are available at www.ADBOWL.com, including variations depending on gender and age.
"Snickers' victory was surprising," said Steve McKee, president of McKee Wallwork Cleveland. "After their controversial 2007 ad, a lot of people thought they'd play it safe, but they found a way to stand out."
McKee's personal favorite was Google's "Parisian Love". He thought it was "strategically smart, creatively simple, and true to the brand. Who would have thought that a simple product demo could top all of the big productions?" McKee said.
McKee thought Audi's "Green Police" ad also deserved high marks, for making its point in a humorous, self-deprecating way. "Super Bowl ads get called a lot of things, but 'smart' isn't often one of them," McKee said. "Kudos to both Google and Audi."
Prior to the game, there was a lot of discussion about the Focus on the Family spot featuring Tim Tebow and his mother. "The ad itself was anything but controversial, after all of the debate it sparked in the week leading up to the game," said McKee. "It didn't generate nearly the attention that the pre-game hype about it did."
Commenting on the ads as a whole, McKee said, "Each year it seems to get more difficult for advertisers to develop a winning formula. Expectations are so high and the competition is fierce. Still, there's no limit to the number of advertisers that can shine—if they play it smart. Unfortunately, too few do."
During and after the game, viewers went to www.ADBOWL.com and, for the first year, downloaded the new ADBOWL App for iPhone to rate the commercials on a scale between one and five, with one being a "fumble" and five being a "touchdown." A complete listing of the results, including breakdown of winners as voted on by sex and age, can be found at www.ADBOWL.com.
