Snap Fitness Allows Non-Members to Muscle in on "easyFIT" Program
Snap Fitness is now making its easyFIT personal wellness program available to non-club members
CHANHASSEN, Minn., June 15, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Snap Fitness, the world's fastest-growing franchisor of 24/7 express fitness centers, recently made "easyFIT," its proprietary personal wellness system, available to non-club members.
The easyFIT personal wellness program includes a small fitness monitor that attaches to a consumer's hip, but unlike a common step counter, it tracks activity intensity, duration and calorie burn. These factors are calculated into one numerical score based on the user's height, weight, age and gender, along with how much oxygen and energy he or she expends when in motion.
The device then transmits the calculations to a personalized website, found at www.mysnapfitness.com that Snap Fitness members, and now non-members, can access. The website offers online support tools to help users choose the right exercise and meal plan, track their activity and participate in fitness challenges with other users.
"The appeal of easyFIT is how its sophisticated accelerometer technology tracks your speed, how hard your body is working and how much you are active. Then, it takes all that information and compiles it into one, easy-to-read score," said Peter Taunton, Snap Fitness CEO and founder. "That score is then seamlessly integrated with the interactive mysnapfitness website. While the technology itself is extremely advanced, consumers don't need to be rocket scientists to reap the benefits."
Since its launch less than six months ago, nearly 20,000 easyFIT monitors have been purchased.
Regardless of an easyFIT user's Snap Fitness club membership status, mysnapfitness.com includes a "My Workout" area where members can create a workout plan, track their workout and select a prepackaged workout designed to address specific goals, including flexibility and strength, among others. Plus, a robust "My Nutrition" area helps users track their calorie intake by following a prescribed meal plan or by tracking their eating using a database of thousands of foods and recipes. Additionally, users can access easyFIT challenges, where they can compete with other users for extra motivation.
"By making the easyFIT program available to the general public, we at Snap Fitness are reinforcing our commitment to personal wellness worldwide," said Taunton, highlighting that less than 10 percent of the U.S. population belongs to a gym. "I could see this program being used by health insurance companies and corporations everywhere. We are offering consumers all the tools they need to reach their fitness goals in one easily accessible program."
