JESSAMINE COUNTY, Ky., Feb. 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- A dispatcher with Jessamine County E911 was honored for his outstanding efforts to aid a citizen in need, using Smart911, the County's 9-1-1 service aimed at improving emergency response. Director of E911 Shelby Horn presented Dispatcher Michael Sakowich with a SmartSave Award from Smart911, which recognizes and rewards call takers, dispatchers and emergency responders who are able to effectively use information in a Smart911 Safety Profile to positively affect the outcome of an emergency.

On January 9, 2014, Sakowich received a cell phone call from a Nicholasville resident who feared someone was attempting to enter her home through the front door. The audio on the cell phone call was poor, and the citizen was afraid to speak too loudly as to alert the intruder attempting to gain entry. Sakowich had difficulty understanding the citizen's exact address but was able to view her Smart911 Safety Profile which automatically displayed with the incoming call. Using information the citizen had included in her Safety Profile, Sakowich was able to dispatch police to her home address, and also provide information on the citizen's vehicle, which was parked in the driveway to confirm that police were at the correct location.
"We get so many calls from cell phones, and there is always vital information we need to confirm verbally such as their name, location or what the nature of their emergency is," stated Sakowich, a dispatcher of almost 5 years. "Having the Safety Profile available was a great benefit because I already had the information that she wasn't able to confirm for me. Without these details, it would have taken more time to get police to her house to investigate the situation."
"We implemented Smart911 in Jessamine County just over two years ago for this very reason, to save time and to provide peace of mind to our citizens," said Shelby Horn, director of Jessamine County E911. "Michael was able to use Smart911 exactly as it was intended, to obtain information that he could not receive from the caller, to provide pertinent details to the responding officers, and to gain better situational awareness. I am so glad that this citizen recognized the benefit of Smart911 and took the time to create her Safety Profile, just in case of an emergency."
Smart911 allows citizens to create a Safety Profile for their household that includes any information they want 9-1-1 and response teams to have in the event of an emergency. When a citizen makes an emergency call, their Safety Profile is automatically displayed to the 9-1-1 call taker, allowing them to send the right response teams to the right location with the right information. Responders can be aware of many details they would not have known previously with Smart911. For instance, fire crews can arrive at a house fire knowing how many people live in the home and the location of bedrooms, EMS can be advised of allergies or specific medical conditions, and police can have the photo of a missing child in seconds rather than hours.
Introduced nearly three years ago by Rave Mobile Safety, the most trusted software partner for campus and public safety, Smart911 has been adopted in 33 states and more than 450 municipalities. It has been credited with positively impacting emergency situations across the U.S., including a missing child case in Arkansas, victims of heart attack and Epilepsy in Nashville, a domestic disturbance in DuPage County (Ill.) and more. In Kentucky, Smart911 is available in Lexington/Fayette County, Frankfort/Franklin County, Lawrenceburg, Jessamine County and Owensboro/Daviess County.
Residents are encouraged to create their Safety Profile with Smart911 today to have their information immediately available to 9-1-1. Smart911 data is private and secure, is only used for emergency responses and available to the 9-1-1 system in the event of an emergency call.
