FRAMINGHAM, Mass., April 2, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- They are the ones you call when you need help. When it's your worst day, they are always there. They bring calmness to a panicked moment, reassure you that help is on the way, and give you the strength to hang on. They are 9-1-1.
April is 'National 9-1-1 Education Month,' and in honor of 9-1-1 agencies and individuals across the country, Smart911 is launching a month-long campaign to raise public awareness of how they can support their local 9-1-1 dispatch center, and be more informed about what to do in an emergency.
The campaign, entitled "Celebrate 9-1-1" can be found at www.smart911.com/celebrate911 and has three components for all members of the community and 9-1-1 to get involved.
- Get Social: 9-1-1 employees are encouraged to take to social media and post pictures of themselves and their agencies with the hashtag #Iam911, to show their community who is answering the phone when they need help. Citizens can do the same, offering statements of thanks and support to these individuals with the hashtag #thankyou911. All April long, Smart911 will collect these pictures and messages into an album on their Facebook page. See video: https://youtu.be/wsgihLKs8vY
- Get Educated: Each week, a new topic that involves how a member of community engaged with 9-1-1 will be featured, providing valuable insight and tips into ways that citizens can better help 9-1-1, help them. The tips can also be found with the hashtag #411on911.
- Get Smart about 9-1-1: The inaugural 'Smart about 9-1-1 Day' is set for April 30, 2015 the last day of 9-1-1 Education Month and encourages citizens to prepare, share and stay safe. Individuals across the country can join the event, sign up for Smart911 and share the message with others. On April 30 at 3pm EDT, Smart911 will draw 10 winners at random from all participants to win Amazon gift cards. Event URL: https://www.facebook.com/events/747268302056089/
"The individuals who work in 9-1-1 are often known as the first, first responders," said Tom Axbey, chief executive officer of Rave Mobile Safety. "They are the first voices you hear when you need help, they provide comfort and reassurance, but you never see their faces. This month we want to celebrate them, and all they do to help keep our communities safe, by bringing well-deserved thanks and recognition to each one. We are proud to work with these individuals on a daily basis through Smart911, and our other public safety services, and we owe them a debt of gratitude for all they do. "
Smart911 allows citizens to create a free Safety Profile online for their household that includes information they want 9-1-1 and response teams to have during an emergency. When a citizen makes an emergency call, their Safety Profile is automatically displayed to the 9-1-1 call-taker, allowing them to send the right response teams to the right location with the right information. In 2014, Smart911 was announced in 39 new locations across 17 U.S. states, making the private and secure service available to an additional 5 million citizens in their hometown, bringing the total coverage area to more than 1,000 communities across 40 states. Smart911 has been credited with positively impacting emergency situations across the U.S., including a missing child case in Arkansas, and saving lives, such as a heart attack victim in Nashville and a house fire victim in Michigan.
