CROSS CITY, Fla. and FRAMINGHAM, Mass., Feb. 19, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Two years ago, Dixie County became the first in Florida to announce the availability of Smart911. The service enables citizens to create a free Safety Profile online containing information they want 9-1-1 to have during an emergency that is immediately available to 9-1-1 when they place an emergency call, allowing for faster and more accurate emergency response. Since that time, counties across Florida have joined the rapidly expanding national network, including Hamilton, Lafayette, Gilchrist, Taylor, Lake, Levy, Union and Collier.

"This service allows us to have the important details we need in order to provide the fastest and most accurate response, immediately," said Dixie County 9-1-1 Coordinator Chuck Elton. "We have been actively working to educate the community about this free service and encourage everyone to logon and create a Safety Profile for their household."
With its growing use in the region, community organizations across the state have been offering their support to public safety officials by encouraging Floridians to take advantage of Smart911 and the extra protection it provides.
"We believe Smart911 is of great value to the families we serve and we are happy to do what we can to make sure they know about it and use it," said Celeste Widman of the Withlacoochee Gulf Area Chamber of Commerce. "The 9-1-1 and emergency response agencies do so much to serve our citizens day in and day out and Smart911 can only enhance and improve the service they provide."
"Our members have difficulty communicating directly with 9-1-1," said June McMahon, president of the Florida Association of the Deaf. "Smart911 will benefit the deaf and hard of hearing community as it will help emergency personnel to be aware that the person has a hearing loss.
"We like that each citizen can choose what information they want to include," added McMahon. "It is also a great benefit that their Safety Profile is available regardless of their location. Because 10 counties in Florida have Smart911, if one of our families had an emergency while in another county, their profile would be available at that 9-1-1 agency. It's peace of mind."
Additional Florida organizations lending their support to Smart911 include: the Dixie County Library, Rotary Club of Trenton, Trenton Animal Hospital, Levy Animal Clinic, Hometown Realty of North Florida, Physician's Regional Medical Center of Naples, and several additional Chambers of Commerce including Dixie County, Gilchrist County, Greater Chiefland and Williston.
"The support of these organizations is an immeasurable benefit to our local 9-1-1 centers as we do all we can to inform all citizens about Smart911," said Mike West, E-911 Coordinator of the Levy County Sheriff's Office "The more people that we can reach with this information means the more people that we help in the future."
Citizens are encouraged to create their Safety Profile at www.Smart911.com. The service is private and secure and information is only available to dispatchers during a 9-1-1 call. A Safety Profile can include data about all family members, including medical conditions or disabilities, addresses associated with all phone numbers, household details including utilities, emergency contacts, vehicles and even pets. Smart911 is a service created and provided by the public safety experts at Rave Mobile Safety. It is currently available in 28 states and more than 300 municipalities across the United States.
