FRAMINGHAM, Mass., June 16, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Rave Mobile Safety (Rave), the trusted partner for campus and public safety, today announced the continued national expansion of Smart911, with additional Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) across the country deploying the public safety service. Additionally, a growing number of emergency management and other municipal agencies involved in public safety are now enlisting Smart911 for emergency notifications and alerts.
In April, Winona County, Minnesota became first in their state to deploy Smart911. Other locations adding the public safety service in recent months, such as Rockwall County, Texas and Polk County, Iowa, joined the ranks of Smart911-enabled PSAPs already in service throughout their states.
Smart911 lets citizens create a free Safety Profile online with information they want emergency responders to have during an emergency. Safety Profiles can include identity of residents, locations of bedrooms, details about medical conditions, photos and anything a citizen would want emergency responders to know about their household. Safety Profiles appear with a 9-1-1 call, allowing the right resources to be dispatched to the right location, saving time, lives and averting tragedy.
Smart911 now includes Smart911Facility, a recently introduced feature that collects and manages data about building and campuses. Building owners and managers can easily provide details online - ranging from floor plans to critical access information - and when a 9-1-1 call originates from a landline or mobile phone within the facility boundaries, the profile appears and enables a faster, more precise emergency response.
According to Winona County Sheriff, Ron Ganrude, "by allowing citizens to provide vital details to our response teams prior to an emergency, we have the ability to positively enhance our response times and ultimately, the outcome of the situation."
Des Moines Fire Department (Polk County) Inspector, Brian O'Keefe noted, "we often spend the first few minutes during an emergency gathering information and assessing the scene. By having information such as photos of family members, details of those who may need evacuation assistance and even utility shut off locations, while we are en route, we can begin our on-scene efforts more quickly."
Rave also reports a number of municipalities are now leveraging Smart911 for mass notification, including Morgan County, Indiana and the city of Wolfforth, Texas. By using Rave Alert in conjunction with Smart911 for emergency notifications, public safety departments have a single best-in-class solution for all their constituent interactions, simplifying operations and lowering financial overhead. For citizens, it means a single process to opt-in to critical communications as well as providing potentially life-saving information about their family to responders.
Smart911 alerting is powered by Rave's technology platform, the underlying structure for its emergency notification and alert products, long-considered the industry benchmark for campus and public safety.
"The continued rapid growth of Smart911 is tremendously validating – it's saving lives and helping first responders to be more effective than ever," said Tom Axbey, CEO of Rave Mobile Safety. "Now, public safety IT departments are realizing they can have access to one, powerful system that can handle many vital functions, like mass notifications, and management of facility information such as key holder and alarm contacts, in an extremely cost-effective manner."
The Smart911 communications and additional data platform provides 9-1-1 centers with unique capabilities to better connect with citizens, improve response times and enhance responder safety. It is quickly deployed and operates on nearly all PSAP technology combinations. Smart911 is now used across parts of 41 states, brings added protection to more than 1,000 communities, and serves more than 10 percent of the entire U.S. population.
