Smart New Ad Campaign from Legal Sea Foods Positions Fish as "Brain Food"
Restaurant's Latest Ads Highlight People's Inept And Imprudent Acts That May Have Been Averted With A Regular Diet Of Fish
BOSTON, May 29, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The old adage that "fish is brain food" is the lesson imparted in a new television advertising campaign from Legal Sea Foods that shows homemade videos of dubious activities undertaken by individuals who would have benefited from a little more fish in their diets.
A series of six outrageous commercials and six print ads debut this week, as part of the latest advertising campaign by the famed restaurant. The TV campaign taps into existing YouTube and other videos of inane, inept and downright foolish acts, including a young man licking an ice-cold metal pole, a woman voluntarily inserting herself into a clothes dryer to experience the tumbling effect, and a young man attempting to use his head to slow down – and stop – a rotating ceiling fan.
The print ads show a number of scenes where a little more gray matter would be helpful. In one, a man is seen sawing off a limb – while sitting on the outermost part of the branch. Another ad shows a misspelled "STOP" painted at an intersection, and another features a supine man with a teed up golf ball in his mouth. The ads conclude with the friendly reminder of "Fish is brain food. We have fish." The complete campaign can be viewed here: http://devitoverdi.vzaar.me/1256787.
"We believe undoubtedly that piscatorial influences beget sagacity and perspicacity," said Roger Berkowitz, president and CEO of Legal Sea Foods. "As I've always said, 'cerebro piscium est cibus.'"
The campaign, created by Legal's long-time advertising agency, DeVito/Verdi, will begin airing this week. The print ads will begin appearing in July magazines. The campaign will run throughout the summer and fall.
