ALTON, Ill., Feb. 25, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Consumer advocacy group, Public Citizen, has called on the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to provide a "bold warning label" on testosterone drugs for men, in reaction to mounting evidence that testosterone can increase the risk of serious cardiovascular health issues.

"It is quite clear that testosterone treatment increases the risks of cardiovascular diseases, including heart attacks," said Dr. Sidney Wolf, of Public Citizen's health group in a Feb. 25 press release.
The Simmons Firm, a nationwide testosterone law firm, is also currently investigating claims that testosterone therapy has caused injury and death. Firm attorneys filed the first testosterone treatment lawsuits earlier this month in federal court.*
"In addition to our own research, the FDA recently announced it is investigating these same claims," said Attorney Trent Miracle, who leads the Simmons Firm's Pharmaceutical Litigation Group. "This advocacy group's petition for a warning label on testosterone medications is another clear indication of the growing concern -- and awareness -- among the general population that these drugs may pose serious health risks."
Public Citizen has suggested that the FDA add a "black box" warning to all testosterone medications, and that manufacturers should be required to warn physicians about the increased risk of heart attack, stroke and death associated with the testosterone treatments.
"Sadly, warning labels will come too late for those who have already suffered a heart attack or stroke while taking testosterone treatments," Miracle said. "Consulting with an attorney could lead to settlements that will add pressure to manufacturers to follow stricter FDA guidelines, should they be introduced in the future."
