Simmons College Expands Access to Its Master of Science in Behavior Analysis Degree Through a New Online Offering
Applications Now Being Accepted for BehaviorAnalysis@Simmons
BOSTON, April 13, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Simmons College announced today that it is expanding access to its highly respected Master of Science in Behavior Analysis degree by offering it in an online format.
The expansion of the distinguished program meets the increased national demand for credentialed behavior analysts who serve as effective practitioners in a variety of fields, including education, special education, behavioral medicine, organizational behavior management, instructional design, and animal training. BehaviorAnalysis@Simmons prepares students for leadership roles in the implementation, evaluation, and administration of applied behavioral analytic principles and methods.
The behavior analysis curriculum at Simmons integrates theory, research, and practice across a variety of applications, in order to effectively prepare students to enter the field as skilled scientist-practitioners. In addition, students complete rigorous group and one-on-one mentoring, during which they receive individualized feedback on mastering key concepts and applications. Classes are led by Simmons faculty who are nationally recognized experts in the field.
This preparation expands students’ career potential and produces strong results on the Board Certified Behavior Analyst® (BCBA®) examination. The Simmons behavior analysis on-campus programs boast a 79 percent student pass rate for the BCBA examination, compared to a national pass rate of 60 percent. The online degree, BehaviorAnalysis@Simmons, is currently not accredited, however it does utilize the same BACB®-approved curriculum as the on-campus program and is taught by the same Simmons faculty. The on-campus program is one of only 20 master’s programs accredited by the Behavior Analysis Accreditation Board of the Association for Behavior Analysis International.
BehavioralAnalysis@Simmons replicates the Simmons on-campus offering in an online format. Students and faculty meet in weekly live online classes, which integrate with the interactive, self-paced, faculty-designed coursework. Both group and individual mentoring are incorporated into the program, meaning that students graduate with the experience hours required to sit for the BCBA exam. The degree is comprised of 42 credits and can be completed in as little as 18 months.
“We are so pleased to bring the academic rigor, mentoring component, and distinguished reputation of our on-campus program to a national audience through the BehavioralAnalysis@Simmons program,” said Russell Maguire, PhD, BCBA-D, program director. “BehavioralAnalysis@Simmons graduates will meet the growing demand to fill leadership roles in the field of behavior analysis, particularly working with children with autism.”
Applications are currently being accepted for the October 2016 cohort.
