Significant Increase in Mobile Barcode Scans Highlights First Week of the Holiday Shopping Season
Consumers Utilize ScanLife Platform to Assist them in their Holiday Shopping Mission
NEW YORK, Dec. 6, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- The first week of the holiday shopping season is now complete and stats are rolling in on how retailers have fared. Consumers that loaded the ScanLife app on their smartphones and feature phones to help them survive the hectic week contributed to more than 30 times the scanning traffic on the ScanLife platform compared to last year. By scanning UPC barcodes using the ScanLife app, shoppers obtained a wide variety of information that assisted them in making the right purchases for the pickiest consumers.
Some of the initial data from the scans last week:
- Product purchases from the app were up almost three times on Friday 11/26 (Black Friday) and Saturday 11/27. A higher percentage purchased on Saturday showing that people may have had more time to do so
- Books were most purchased category, followed by Electronics and Housewares
- Toys were the most scanned category, followed by Electronics and Books
- The majority of products bought were in the $10-$30 range
"We're pleased so far by the data we see in terms of mobile barcode scans this holiday season," said Mike Wehrs, CEO and President of Scanbuy, the mobile leader in 1D and 2D barcodes. "We look forward to these strong numbers persisting as consumers continue to see the benefits in mobile barcode scanning and continue to shop using them and spreading the message to their friends about the benefits of mobile barcode scanning while shopping."
