Shotfarm's Switch Platform Simplifies New Walmart Product Data Requirements
Retailer's enhanced focus on addressing product exchange signals industry need for a streamlined solution.
CHICAGO, July 30, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Walmart yesterday outlined a major data initiative aimed at securing high-quality product content from the company's more than 6,500 partnering manufacturers and getting this information online quickly.

Walmart's new Enterprise Specification ("Spec") program seeks to improve the quality, accuracy, and breadth of product information available to Walmart.com consumers. The Spec details the required, recommended, and optional data attributes suppliers must now provide before their products will be posted on Walmart's website. Suppliers will be required to provide product information along with any additional information they believe would be valuable to Walmart customers. The Walmart initiative further highlights the retailer's drive to strengthen its e-commerce presence and improve data quality across purchase channels.
Shotfarm, a cloud-based, end-to-end solution for the management and exchange of product information, is the first company to offer vendors the ability to comply with the new Walmart product standards. The company's new "Switch" platform allows Walmart partners, as well as those of other major retailers, to readily format and convert product data into retailers' desired formats, making product management and exchange easier and faster than ever.
The Walmart Spec, to be released to suppliers August 5, is already integrated into Shotfarm's Switch network. Suppliers can simply purchase the Walmart-branded Switch and automatically reformat and convert original product data to fit the new Spec's requirements.
Walmart anticipates multiple updates to the Spec in coming months, requiring product data changes with each iteration. The Walmart Switch feed will eliminate suppliers' need to manually update their product attributes, a significant hurdle to providing Walmart with the most complete product data possible.
"Walmart's aim is to offer the most complete, consistent, and accurate product experience to their online customers," said Mike Lapchick, CEO of Shotfarm. "Shotfarm shares this goal and our Switch platform significantly enhances Walmart suppliers' ability to be successful in meeting the requirements of the new Spec."
