"The first quarter can be a challenge for many brands and their retailers," said Mark Grondin, Senior Vice President of Marketing for Shopatron. "But selling online and using dealer-supported distribution is convenient for the end consumer, whether they're trying to save on shipping with in-store pickup, or avoid high gas prices and poor weather conditions with home delivery."
A handful of industries on the Shopatron order exchange enjoyed as much as triple-digit growth during the first quarter, including automotive aftermarket (151%), camera and photo (251%), consumer electronics (113%) and home furnishings and hardware (104%).
Some of Shopatron's seasonal categories also saw notable growth in the first quarter, including lawn and garden equipment and tools (53%), pet and equine (54%), sporting goods (44%) and snowsports (52%).
"And the best part is that many of our retail partners have seen similar growth in their in-store sales," Grondin added. "In a recent survey, 28% of retailers noted that their in-store sales had increased over 10% versus 2010. While this is not as large as our online sales growth, we think it's a good sign that some retail sectors are returning to solid growth."
In the first quarter, Shopatron was also busy launching online stores for high-profile clients such as Alpine Electronics, Louisville Slugger, Kawasaki Motors UK, Suzuki Great Britain and Suzuki Marine.
