Shea Homes Preserves Trees to Ensure the Natural Beauty of Trilogy Lake Norman
GREATER CHARLOTTE AREA, N.C., Oct. 28, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Large-scale new home communities typically begin with the developer clearing most or all trees on the site. It's more economical and helps the developer lay out roads more efficiently. It allows them to get the most homes possible in a given area.
Shea Homes is taking a different approach at its first Trilogy active lifestyle community in Denver, Trilogy Lake Norman (http://www.trilogylife.com/communities/north%20carolina/lakenorman/).
"I've done similar tree surveys before, but never at this scale or this level of detail," said Chris Coles, the Survey Project Manager for the project engineer, WSP of Mooresville. "I've noted the species, health, size and general attractiveness of over 2,000 trees in the first phase alone. Trilogy and Shea Homes are committed to saving as many trees as they can and planning a beautiful community around them."
The official groundbreaking (http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/trilogy-by-shea-homes-to-celebrate-a-new-chapter-with-a-groundbreaking-ceremony-at-trilogy-lake-norman-276978651.html) took place on October 1.
During the ceremony, Trilogy General Manager Jay Seymoure thanked the former land owners, the Clark Family, for their stewardship of the land over the years. He added that the community would continue to respect the natural beauty of the land.
"When we build Trilogy communities, we look for places that can inspire those who will live in them," Seymoure said. "Our hope is to build a community with minimal impact on the land."
As part of Shea Homes' demonstrated commitment to environmental stewardship, trees throughout the property have been clearly marked for preservation. They create natural focal points throughout Trilogy Lake Norman.
Landscape architect and land planner Jaime Van Ravensway, of Greey-Picket, said roads have been moved left or right to preserve groups of trees and create a more beautiful community.
Added Seymoure, "The tree preservation efforts will continue to grow and evolve. Though we're trying to keep the nicest and best species in place, the site is nearly 90 percent covered in trees. We've already had to take some trees down, but we're planning to repurpose them within the community. For example, they could be used in the architecture and even the furnishings of the 25,000-square-foot amenity building."
This conservation effort is just a small part of what Charlotte-area home buyers will soon see as "the Trilogy difference." A resort-style community just off Highway 73 in Lincoln County, Trilogy Lake Norman is committed to preserving the area's natural resources. Naturally beautiful and masterfully planned, this community features a stunning 606-acre backdrop of lush forests and meadows—completing an amazing resort lifestyle.
