Tastemade Sees Highest Growth; BuzzFeed's Tasty Tops Facebook
Social Video Engagement Sees 66 Percent Growth
NEW YORK, April 13, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Leading social media benchmarking and predictive analytics firm, Shareablee Inc., released the Top 25 Social U.S. Brands in Q1 2016. The ranking reflects a growth of 21 percent in sharing (shares and retweets), boosted by a 49 percent increase in social video posts which drove a 66 percent growth in engagement across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, and 10 percent in social engagement overall compared to Q1 2015. U.S. brands captured a total of 21 billion social actions on owned content with Instagram leading in engagement (11.6 billion on Instagram, 7.8 billion on Facebook, 988.4 million on Twitter, 254.1 million on YouTube excluding views). The Top 25 brands represent 11 percent share of engagement among all U.S. brands.
National Geographic dominates the Top 25 ranking with 332.3 million total actions (likes, comments, shares, retweets, favorites, dislikes) across Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube, also ranking #1 on Instagram with 314.4 million actions. NBA captured the most actions on video content across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, at 143.4 million. Tastemade saw the largest growth of any brand in the Top 25 compared to Q1 2015 at 1,381 percent largely driven by Facebook. Tasty, Tastemade and Tip Hero joined the quarterly Top 25 ranking for the first time in Q1 2016, demonstrating the rise of food-related properties on social. Their dominant use of video on Facebook has propelled their social success, accounting for 99 percent of Tasty and Tastemade's Facebook engagement and 77 percent of Tip Hero's Facebook engagement.

The top five performing categories ranked by social media actions across all platforms are:
- Media & Entertainment (10.8 billion)
- Publishing (4.6 billion)
- Sports (2.7 billion)
- Retail (2 billion)
- Consumer Packaged Goods (482 million)
Other notable findings include:
- The three fastest growing industries on social in Q1 2016 compared to Q1 2015 were Consumer Goods (47 percent), Business Services (43 percent), and Sports (42 percent).
- On Facebook, U.S. brands saw Facebook impressions grow 16 percent in Q1 2016 compared to Q1 2015, led by the Media & Entertainment category with over 484 billion Facebook impressions.
