TORONTO, Dec. 12, 2013 /CNW/ - Today, the Greater Toronto CivicAction Alliance named Sevaun Palvetzian as its new Chief Executive Officer.
"After a very competitive search, I am delighted that the Board of Directors has unanimously chosen Sevaun to lead CivicAction," said John Tory, Chair of CivicAction. "Her provincial and international experience has made her familiar with many of the issues CivicAction tackles, and she is uniquely suited to advance our current priorities of accelerating regional transportation, improving economic performance and fostering inclusion and resilience - in short, building a stronger, fairer region."
"Throughout my career, civic engagement and leadership have been at the heart of my work," said Palvetzian. "I look forward to leading this dynamic, non-partisan organization to further the Toronto region's prosperity. I especially look forward to working with the region's emerging leaders and taking on some of CivicAction's current challenges, including improving employment prospects for youth and attracting more foreign investment and jobs to our region."
Palvetzian comes from the Ontario government, having held senior leadership roles in strategic planning, communications, and stakeholder relations. Most recently, she led the Ontario Place Revitalization project at the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport, and served as a Director in the Ministry of Government Services and ServiceOntario. Prior to this, she worked at the University of Toronto, the World Bank Group, and Washington-based civic education program Presidential Classroom.
Palvetzian will officially assume the post on January 6, 2014.
She replaces Mitzie Hunter, who submitted her resignation in August 2013 after running and winning public office. Since then, CivicAction has operated with an interim Executive Committee, reporting to CivicAction Chair John Tory and the Board of Directors.
