Serial Entrepreneurs Aim to Boldly Reinvent the Petroleum Industry
New venture's patent-pending technology and processes enable consumers to drive their cars without leaving a carbon footprint
ATLANTA, Sept. 9, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Citing the latest data from the Oak Ridge National Laboratory on carbon dioxide emissions, serial entrepreneurs Peter Davis and Doug Kruep announced today the launch of their latest venture – GreenPrint, LLC. The ground-breaking new company is based on their invention of Carbon Neutral Gasoline, which enables consumers to drive their cars without leaving a carbon footprint.
Davis is a former Procter & Gamble executive, turned technology pioneer, who sold his loyalty marketing company to a private equity firm in 2009. "Across the country this week more than 100 million people will commute to work and/or school by car releasing nearly 7,000,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere," said Davis, GreenPrint's Chief Executive Officer. "Through our new carbon neutral gasoline we are going to help the average citizen erase the burden they place on the environment – conveniently and cost-effectively."
Davis is joined in the new venture by Doug Kruep, a 30-year veteran in the convenience store industry, whose point-of-sale technology company was acquired by VeriFone in 2012. "While we have other related solutions in the pipeline, our initial efforts are aimed at helping people eliminate their automobile's carbon emissions conveniently," said Kruep. "Similar to purchasing a car wash at the pump, customers can now choose to plant a tree with their purchase of ZERO, Carbon Neutral Gasoline. Our patent-pending technology will now enable people to drive away from the pump with not only a clean car, but a clear conscience too."
According to the latest data from the Carbon Dioxide Information Analysis Center at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, the CO2 produced by the average U.S. citizen produces 17.6 metric tons of CO2 annually, primarily through the burning of fossil fuels. That output is almost 3 times more than the average consumer in China and 10 times more than the typical Indian citizen. "As people become more aware of their impact on the environment, we fully expect that many will modify their daily activities," Kruep suggested. "Just like community recycling programs have resulted in tens of millions of people dragging their segregated bottles and cans out to the curbside on trash day, a program that makes it convenient for people to do the right thing when they fill their tank with gas has the potential to dramatically change consumer behaviors."
According to U.S. Census Bureau, 48,000 of the 121,446 gas stations in the country are affiliated with the top 5 petroleum brands (Shell, BP, Chevron, ExxonMobil, and ConocoPhillips). Additionally, 4,900 gas outlets are owned by big-box retailers (Kroger, Walmart, Sam's Club, Safeway, and Costco). Davis explained, "There's very little loyalty to gasoline brands. Consumers buy primarily based on location and price," Davis continued, "our research indicates that our ZERO solution fills an unmet need and that consumers will go out of their way to frequent a petroleum retailer that offers our carbon neutral gas – creating brand loyalty in what is now a commoditized industry."
