SAN FRANCISCO, July 9, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Sensely announced today that it has been named a 2019 Gartner Cool Vendor in Healthcare Artificial Intelligence. According to the report, "AI is a top game-changing technology across healthcare. CIOs should watch these emerging vendors that use innovative approaches to AI in healthcare for beneficial and impactful results." Authored by Gartner analysts Gregg Pessin, Laura Craft, and Barry Runyon, the report can be accessed by Gartner subscribers here.
Founded in 2013, Sensely was borne out of Adam Odessky's experience in watching the personal healthcare journey of his grandmother Rita. Adam noticed how hard it was for large healthcare institutions to communicate empathically and naturally, and started working diligently to craft a solution. During this exploration period, Adam joined forces with Ivana Schnur, an MD/PhD who was conducting research on the use of avatars to enhance sensitive conversations between clinicians and veterans suffering from PTSD. In coming together to co-found Sensely, Adam and Ivana sought to build a platform that would combine the best qualities of natural human interaction with the scalability of technology.
Initially focused on remote patient monitoring for chronic diseases, the Sensely platform has broadened its reach and currently addresses a variety of use cases including symptom assessment, insurance underwriting, and pharmaceutical patient services programs. Both co-founders remain involved, with Adam serving as the CEO and Dr. Schnur serving as Sensely's Chief Medical Officer.
Sensely's most prominent commercial partnership is with the UK's National Health Service, where it serves end-users with a mobile app that combines the functionality of a symptom checker, an appointment booking service, and extensive self-care content. Ask NHS is completely free to users, is available 24/7, and features a virtual assistant, Olivia, who speaks in both text chat and spoken voice modes.
The Sensely platform is typically deployed via a software development kit, which enables enterprises to incorporate the Sensely interface into their existing mobile apps or websites, and connects with common back-end systems, such as claims or personal records. Sensely also offers a suite of popular modules, such as symptom assessment content. In addition, Sensely's conversation design team and easy to use tools help customers convert their proprietary content into interactive, engaging end-user experiences.
"We're delighted by the recognition from Gartner," said Adam Odessky, CEO and co-founder of Sensely, adding, "We believe that customer excitement for preferred consumer experiences that also drive operating efficiencies is quite high, and we are thrilled to be addressing this market need."
