Seattle-based company glassybaby reaches goal of $2 million in giving to charities dedicated to healing
glassybaby kicks off two million thank yous campaign to celebrate goal and pledges to raise $2 million more
SEATTLE, April 16, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, the Seattle-based glassybaby announced that it has reached its goal of $2 million in giving to charities around the country that are dedicated to healing. To celebrate this milestone achievement, glassybaby kicked off two months of gratitude in April and May with a celebratory 'two million thank yous' campaign to shine a light on the customers, giving partners, and glassybaby team members.
glassybaby is a Seattle-based glass votive company started by cancer survivor Lee Rhodes 16 years ago with a simple mission: hand-blown healing through 10% giving. This mission has given way to a milestone. Just one year after glassybaby announced that it had raised $1 million in giving to charities dedicated to healing, the company announced a total of $2 million in philanthropic giving. The 'two million thank yous' campaign recognizes the supporters, customers and partnerships who have made this significant achievement possible.
"glassybaby wishes to thank each and every person who has chosen to love, give, celebrate, commemorate, and decorate with glassybaby. This may have started with my story, but its our customers' stories and connections that keep us growing and giving," said glassybaby founder, Lee Rhodes. "Gratitude abounds – here's to $2 million more in giving."
Seattleite and founder of Babes Against Brain Cancer, Jill Vedder said, "My sister was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer last year. glassybaby dedicated 10% of the sales from 'belle' glassybaby to the Solid Tumor Translational Research to honor her and her ongoing battle. To date, we have raised over $7K together for cancer research."
Since its inception, glassybaby has given back $2 million to more than 100 healing charities including the Marsha Rivkin Center for Ovarian Cancer Research, Ben Towne Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation, Camp Korey, Stand Up To Cancer, White Light Fund, Rainier Valley Food Bank, Swedish Medical Center Foundation, Robin Hood Foundation, Conservation International, American Red Cross, Pearl Jam's Vitalogy Foundation, STTR and many more. About glassybaby: glassybaby began in 1998 when Lee Rhodes, glassybaby creator and founder, was raising her three small children and fighting what would become a seven year battle with lung cancer. Inspired by the beauty of elegant glass votive candles, Lee filled them with tea lights and scattered them throughout her home finding great hope and healing in their color, light and love. glassybaby is now an $8 million a year business, employing more than 70+ artisan glassblowers out of its Seattle 'hotshop.' There are three Seattle-area locations, a newly-opened San Francisco store in Presidio Heights, and a robust online store that sells glassybaby all over the world. Since inception, giving back has been the foundation of glassybaby. To date, glassybaby has donated more than $2 million from revenue sales to charities dedicated to healing.
