COLUMBUS, Ohio and PETERBOROUGH, N.H., Oct. 12, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- It is the responsibility of Ohio pre-kindergarten teachers to support the comprehensive development of children in all domains of school readiness, as stated in Ohio's standards. One of the best ways they can work toward that goal is by educating themselves at the Conference for Ohio PreK Teachers, coming November 6–7, 2017, to Columbus, OH.
The two-day event will help teachers address Ohio's Early Learning and Development Standards as well as the City of Columbus Pre-kindergarten Initiative. It brings together pre-kindergarten teachers from across Ohio at a time when the need for solid instructional strategies has never been greater.
"Ohio expects its pre-kindergarten teachers to fully understand the developmental skills and concepts children should know and be able to do at the end of their preschool experience. A couple of days with SDE and teachers will be performing at their instructional best," Beth Nee, SDE program developer, says.
Through 35+ sessions, attendees will explore how to help students regulate their attention, emotions, and behavior and establish relationships with familiar adults and peers. They'll identify the latest strategies for increasing learners' fine- and gross-motor skills and encourage their physical well-being. They'll hear how other teachers are growing early literacy skills, including the concepts of print, comprehension of age-appropriate text, phonological awareness, and learner recognition. In addition, this year's program solves the common problem of encouraging young learners' initiative, engagement, persistence, and creativity.
The featured speakers are pre-kindergarten experts who have their finger on the pulse of what is happening in Ohio's PreK classrooms—and have the answers teachers are looking for. Attendees will hear from seasoned pre-kindergarten teachers Drew Giles, Karen Guess, Kim Hughes, and Cindy Middendorf. Also presenting will be blogger April Larremore, Ed.D. (Chalk Talk) and author of the book "Ready for Kindergarten" and blogger (Teach Preschool) Deborah Stewart.
"As the most important professional development of the year for Ohio pre-kindergarten teachers, it's here that attendees will gain access to new research, actionable strategies, and proven best practices. Upon return to their classrooms, they'll be prepared to conquer their classroom challenges and foster learning in all," Nee adds.
