ScottsMiracle-Gro Opens GRO1000 Grassroots Grant Application Process in Support of Community Gardens and Green Spaces
Program Enters Fourth Year of Funding Local Greenscape Projects
MARYSVILLE, Ohio, Jan. 13, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company (NYSE: SMG) today announces the continuation of its GRO1000 Grassroots Grants award program to support community green space development. Grants are awarded to deserving not-for-profit civic organizations across the country and are part of a larger commitment the company has made to create more than 1,000 community gardens and green spaces in the U.S., Canada and Europe by 2018, the company's 150th anniversary. To date, 406 community projects have been impacted by GRO1000.

Deadline for application submission is February 17, 2014, at 11:59 p.m. EST. Grants, which range from $500 to $1,500, are awarded based on community need, scope of project and long-term sustainability of the green space.

On January 24, ScottsMiracle-Gro and its partner the U.S. Conference of Mayors will announce the winners of its annual GRO1000 Showcase Grants, which are awarded to cities for the installation of innovative public gardens and green spaces within their communities. Additional partners for the GRO1000 program include Plant a Row for the Hungry, Garden Writers Association, National Gardening Association, and Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens.
