Schroders Expands Fixed Income Capability with Head of Municipal Credit Research
Industry veteran, Eric Friedland, CFA, hired for senior research role
NEW YORK, July 26, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Schroders, the $322.8 billion* global asset manager, today announced the appointment of Eric Friedland, CFA, as Head of Municipal Credit Research. In this role, Mr. Friedland will become a senior member of Schroders' extensive global fixed income research team and will oversee the firm's municipal bond research and analysis.
"With over 24 years of investment research experience in the municipal sector, Eric will continue to deepen Schroders' global fixed income credit capabilities. Eric is a noted thought leader within the municipal industry and his experience will build upon the firm's commitment to offering a world-class multi-sector fixed income platform," stated Karl Dasher, Head of Fixed Income for Schroders.
"Eric is a tremendous addition to our team and will assist us in continuing to research and identify undervalued municipal bonds within the market. The municipal market over the last several years has undergone tremendous change with the collapse of the third party municipal bond insurers, the creation of the Build America Bond program and the lingering effects of the US recession on state and local government finances across the country. These and other changes have led to increased volatility in the municipal market and Eric's appointment will provide additional support for the team in continuing to find value within the $3 trillion municipal market," stated Dan Scholl and Susan Beck, co-heads of the US tax-exempt fixed income team for Schroders.
Mr. Friedland joins Schroder Investment Management from Fitch Ratings where he was a senior member of the public finance management team-- responsible for overseeing credit criteria and policy for the group. In his role, he had significant interaction with investors in communicating Fitch's view on macro issues affecting municipal credits and also served as a member of the firm's global credit risk team which identified both economic and market risks across asset classes worldwide. Mr. Friedland's prior positions included Director of Municipal Research at Belle Haven Investments, Director in the Public Finance Group at Financial Security Assurance and Senior Analyst at Moody's Investors Service. Mr. Friedland graduated with an MBA in Business Administration from Duke University and received a Masters of Science in Accounting from Northeastern University and is a Chartered Financial Analyst. Eric will be based in New York and Philadelphia.
