SANS Targets Zero Day Attacks at Denver Cyber Security Training Event
Find Out How to Know if Attackers Have Infiltrated Your Network
BETHESDA, Md., April 18, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- SANS Institute, the global leader in cyber security training and certifications, today announced SANS Rocky Mountain 2019 (#SANSRockyMountain) taking place July 15-20 in Denver, CO. The event features courses and evening talks addressing some of today's most complex cyber security issues. Included on the agenda is a keynote by SANS Fellow and Enclave Forensics COO David Hoelzer (@it_audit) "Finding Attacks and Compromises Before Day Zero."
Hoelzer explained, "At Enclave, we are constantly dealing with customers who are reacting to breaches and other 'zero day' threats where the attackers have been active in their systems for months. In our opinion, a major reason that this continues to be the normal state for information security is that while, as an industry, we have claimed to embrace Defense-In-Depth, the latest iteration of which is Zero-Trust Networking, we fail to act as though we actually believe in this security practice. This talk will start with the assumption that we will be, or already have been, breached. I'll cover meaningful tools and activities that we can engage in now to significantly move the needle when it comes to detecting and reacting. In other words, we're going to talk about finding the unknown zero-day threats before zero-day arrives."
In addition to his evening talk, Hoelzer will teach SEC503: Intrusion Detection In-Depth. This course delivers the technical knowledge, insight, and hands-on training security professionals need to defend a network with confidence. Students will learn about the underlying theory of TCP/IP and the most used application protocols, such as DNS and HTTP. The knowledge gained will help students to intelligently examine network traffic for signs of an intrusion.
SANS Rocky Mountain 2019 features courses covering cyber defense, ethical hacking, penetration testing, cloud security, digital forensics, and security management. In addition to SANS classroom training, attendees can test their security skills at the Core NetWars Experience, DFIR NetWars Tournament, and the Cyber Defense NetWars Tournament.
