SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 7, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- GreenState, a digital media site for marijuana lifestyle and news content produced by the San Francisco Chronicle, announced today the 2018 GreenState Cannabis Awards. The first GreenState Cannabis Awards will highlight California's best cannabis products, services, and experiences for those who seek only the best as this emerging market goes mainstream in 2018.
GreenState editors and writers nominated then selected 50 Bests for the California consumer, and granted 165 brands with Excellence awards noting exceptional performance throughout the industry.
Winners in the Best categories include Weedmaps, craft, Steep Hill, and the Garden Society. Excellence recipients include Meadow, AbsoluteXtracts, Bloom Farms, and Jane West Collection.
Today, 21 percent of the U.S. population live in a legalization state, one-in-eight U.S. adults say they smoke marijuana, and 88 percent of cannabis consumers consider themselves part of a new cannabis culture – identifying as social, sophisticated, and professional individuals.
"As more people – whether they be boomers revisiting cannabis, young couples looking for the next artisanal trend, or senior citizens looking for health solutions – get cannabis curious, there's a need for real journalism – thorough, skeptical, explanatory," said Kitty Morgan, Assistant Managing Editor for Lifestyle at the San Francisco Chronicle.
The awards will appear on GreenState.com Dec. 7 and in print in GreenState's special section, which will be inserted in the San Francisco Chronicle on Sunday, Dec. 17.
"We're really excited to have assembled for readers a first-ever mega-guide to the best of California cannabis. It was a daunting, complex effort, but it was worth it," said David Downs, Cannabis Editor at GreenState.
