San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition Toasts 80+ Wines From BevMo! Private Label Portfolio
Thirty of BevMo!'s Proprietary Blends Take Home Medals At Annual Show
CONCORD, Calif., Jan. 25, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Betting big on its private label portfolio the past few years has paid off for BevMo!, as more than 80 of its exclusive wines were awarded top prizes at this year's San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, the largest competition of American wines in the world.
Competing against nearly 7,000 wines from across the country, 30 of BevMo!'s exclusive wines took home 83 total medals: two Best of Class, seven Double Gold (equivalent to a unanimous rating by all panel members), 17 Gold, 35 Silver and 22 Bronze, as judged by the esteemed panel of judges at the annual competition that concluded this month.
"We made an unprecedented commitment to expanding and enhancing our private label portfolio, and the results of this objective judging are proof that we have succeeded in creating outstanding wines that are as good – or better – as anything on the market," said Dimitri Haloulos, chief executive officer of BevMo!
BevMo!'s Ivory & Burt (Zinfandel) and Dark Hundred (Red Blend) were awarded the Best of Class in the competition. Its Challis Lane brand won three Double Gold awards (Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio), while its Craftwork (Pinot Grigio), Michael Pozzan (Marianna), Sailor's Grave (Cabernet Sauvignon) and The Weasel and the Cork (Cabernet Sauvignon) also all won Double Gold awards.
Of the 30 different private label brands that garnered top prizes for BevMo!, the most acclaimed was its popular Unruly brand, with a total of seven awards (one Gold, four Silver and two Bronze). Challis Lane and Ryder Estate each won six awards, and Craftwork took home five different awards.
The wines are exclusive to BevMo!, and are proprietary blends from vineyards around the world. This private label portfolio is comprised of more than 300 wines that offer outstanding quality at the best value for BevMo! customers.
"We've always sung the praises and boasted of our private label brands, but it's something entirely different when judges from the largest American wine competition in the world recognize them for their superior quality," said Haloulos. "We've made a big bet on expanding this portfolio, and clearly the bet is paying off."
