Samuel Adams Brewing the American Dream Launches Small Business Speed Coaching in Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 24, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Samuel Adams announced that it will host its signature small business Speed Coaching event in Philadelphia for the first time. Designed to provide expert, personalized business advice, the event is part of Samuel Adams Brewing the American Dream, a micro-lending and coaching program for small business owners working in food, beverage, craft brewing and hospitality. For the Philadelphia event, Samuel Adams is collaborating with Fair Food, an organization that brings locally-grown food to the marketplace and promotes a humane, sustainable agriculture system for the Philadelphia region.
The Speed Coaching event will be held on Monday, February 24th from 7:00-9:30 p.m. at Reading Terminal Market (51 North 12th St.). Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in up to six 20-minute, high-impact sessions with coaching professionals who will offer a range of expertise in areas such as packaging, sales and distribution, and marketing. For example, a small business owner may meet with a finance professional for advice on how to competitively price his/her product. Samuel Adams coaches will be joined by nearly 20 food and beverage industry experts as part of the Fair Food partnership. Small business owners working in food, beverage, hospitality and craft brewing can register online for the free event at http://samueladamsbtadphilly.eventbrite.com, and participants are encouraged to come prepared with questions regarding specific challenges their businesses are facing.
"Philadelphia is such a great craft beer and artisanal food town, and we're very much looking forward to working with some of the passionate entrepreneurs who are behind these businesses," said Jim Koch, brewer and founder of Samuel Adams. "Many of them are also at the forefront of job creation and economic growth within their communities, and there's no question that they can play a key role in helping the city improve its economy and job sustainability ranking," Koch mentioned, referring to a recent 2013 index of best-performing cities.
Samuel Adams Brewing the American Dream
Launched in partnership with nonprofit microlender Accion, Brewing the American Dream provides access to the two critical things Jim Koch wishes he had when starting Samuel Adams 30 years ago: access to capital and real-world business advice. Since 2008, the program has provided more than 310 loans totaling more than $2.7 million to small businesses across the country. Additionally, more than 4,000 individuals have been coached or mentored, and the program has helped create or retain upwards of 1,850 jobs.
Brewing the American Dream, which is expanding its signature Speed Coaching into the Philadelphia area, has also recently provided small business loans in Pennsylvania's Lehigh Valley. To learn more about the program, please visit: http://btad.samueladams.com/.
About The Boston Beer Company
The Boston Beer Company began in 1984 with a generations-old family recipe that Founder and Brewer Jim Koch uncovered in his father's attic. Inspired and unafraid to challenge conventional thinking about beer, Jim brought the recipe to life in his kitchen. Pleased with the results of his work, Jim decided to sample his beer with bars in Boston in the hopes that drinkers would appreciate the complex, full-flavored beer he brewed fresh in America. That beer was aptly named Samuel Adams Boston Lager, in recognition of one of our nation's great founding fathers, a man of independent mind and spirit. Little did Jim know at the time, Samuel Adams Boston Lager soon became a catalyst of the American craft beer revolution.
Today, The Boston Beer Company brews more than 50 styles of beer. It relentlessly pursues the development of new styles and the perfection of classic beers by searching the world for the finest ingredients. Using the traditional four vessel brewing process, the Company often takes extra steps like dry-hopping, barrel-aging and a secondary fermentation known as krausening. The Company has also pioneered another revolution, the 'extreme beer' movement, where it seeks to challenge drinker's perceptions of what beer can be. The Boston Beer Company has been committed to elevating the image of American craft beer by entering festivals and competitions around the globe, and is one of the world's most awarded breweries at international beer competitions. As an independent company, brewing quality beer remains its single focus. Although Samuel Adams beer is America's largest-selling craft beer, it accounts for only one percent of the U.S. beer market. The Boston Beer Company will continue its independently-minded quest to brew great beer and to advocate for the growth of craft beer across America.
