SAIC To Be Honored For Supporting Veteran-Owned Businesses
Company Recognized by National Veteran Small Business Coalition for Excellence in Working with Veteran-Owned and Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Businesses
MCLEAN, Va. and RENO, Nev., June 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) (NYSE: SAI) announced it will be formally recognized by the National Veteran Small Business Coalition (NVSBC) at the Veteran Entrepreneur Training Symposium (VETS2012) "Champions of Veteran Enterprise" luncheon today in Reno, Nev. The NVSBC will honor SAIC for its excellence in working with veteran-owned and service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses (SDVOSB).
Last year SAIC significantly exceeded the government's mandate statutory goal of 3 percent of total subcontract awards to SDVOSB. SAIC awarded approximately $315 million, reflecting 7.9 percent of subcontract dollars to SDVOSB. Additionally, SAIC awarded 16.2 percent of total subcontract dollars to veteran-owned small businesses, a small business category without a statutory goal.
"We're very pleased and proud to be recognized by the NVSBC for supporting our veterans," said Babak Nouri, vice president and director of corporate small business development. "We receive outstanding support from the veteran-owned small businesses we work with, and it's an honor to pursue expanded business opportunities to those who have served our country."
The mission of NVSBC is to transition veterans into business owners serving the Federal marketplace by working to ensure that veteran businesses are given first consideration for federal prime and subcontracting procurement opportunities. VETS2012 brings government agencies, industry leaders and veteran entrepreneurs together in a small, intimate forum to discuss issues affecting veteran-owned companies. SAIC will be one of 10 major companies to be recognized by the NVSBC at VETS2012.
