SAE International Revises its Standards Classification System
WARRENDALE, Pa., March 14, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- SAE International has restructured and simplified its standards classification system.
The new system is designed to reduce confusion for standards users.
The new SAE International Standards Classification System will publish each standard with a classification label and a clear definition of the classification.
The changes, which were available for use in late December 2010, entail the elimination of some classifications, the addition of others, and the combining of others. The categories of "Non-Current," "Amendment" and "Re-Issued" have been eliminated, while a "Stabilized" category has been added.
The definitions of the new SAE standards categories are:
- Issued – The first time a technical report is published.
- Revised – An active technical report that has been updated and re-published.
- Reaffirmed – A technical report that has been reviewed by the technical committee and determined to be current with no need for revision.
- Stabilized – A technical report that has been frozen at the last active revision level.
- Cancelled – A technical report that is not fit for use, either for technical reasons or when its technical requirements are superseded by another document.
