Sacred Heart University School of Nursing Selects Gaumard® Scientific's Victoria™ for Use in Nursing Simulation & Clinical Skills Laboratories
Addition of Fully Tetherless Birthing Simulator Reflects Commitment to Providing Instructors, Students with Access to Latest Technology for Nursing Education
FAIRFIELD, Conn., and MIAMI, Oct. 15, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Sacred Heart University School of Nursing and Gaumard Scientific today announced the installation of the Victoria birthing simulator in SHU's Nursing Simulation & Clinical Skills Laboratories. The addition of the fully tetherless and wireless simulator, designed and manufactured by Gaumard in Miami, reflects SHU's commitment to providing its instructors and students with the latest technology in nursing education.
Victoria is the most recent addition to Gaumard's family of NOELLE maternal and neonatal care simulators. Victoria has a patented, precision life-like delivery and birthing mechanism that births a lifelike, full-term baby with sophisticated monitoring capabilities. The Victoria system includes comprehensive clinical scenarios, including shoulder dystocia and postpartum hemorrhage. With articulating endoskeletons and silky smooth elastomeric skin, Victoria is the most realistic, fully tetherless and wireless maternal/fetal simulator for use in actual point-of-care training.
Beth Boyd, MSN, RN, CNE, director of Nursing Simulation & Clinical Skills Laboratories at SHU School of Nursing, said: "The nursing simulation and skills laboratories provide the students the opportunity to learn and practice in a realistic and risk-free environment. These experiences provide invaluable opportunities to enrich and enhance learning as well as increase student confidence. Victoria has the capabilities of providing innovative and realistic experiences. We are eager to incorporate this latest technology into our School of Nursing and provide interactive-strategies and engaged learning for our students."
John Eggert, Gaumard's executive vice president, said: "SHU School of Nursing has fully embraced the use of simulation in its programs. We are pleased with the selection of Victoria as a showcase technology in what is a tech-savvy learning environment. Victoria has raised the bar to a new standard that reflects our commitment to designing products with input from those who use them."
