PLANO, Texas, Dec. 10, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Sacramento area kids can now play like kings. Literally. Thanks to Sacramento Kings Assistant Coach Nancy Lieberman, WorldVentures Foundation™ opened a DreamCourt™ at Margarette "Mama" Marks Park—serving the Del Paso Heights community—on Wednesday, Dec. 9. DreamCourts are top-quality, multipurpose play spaces built in collaboration with WorldVentures Foundation, Nancy Lieberman Charities and Sport Court®, with the goal of providing children in underprivileged communities a safe area to play basketball, interact socially, and learn important lessons about teamwork and good sportsmanship.
Nancy shared her sentiments with the audience saying, "I am living the dream that every one of the kids who will play on this court will have one day. DreamCourts are not just places to play basketball, they are places to set goals, to find purpose, to carve a path to the future and to envision the possibilities."
"We are honored to be a partner with Nancy Lieberman in bringing this DreamCourt to Sacramento. Local children will thrive and learn skills together on this court while growing socially. And these skills help them compete on every level," said Gwyneth Lloyd, executive director of WorldVentures Foundation.
Nancy Lieberman, a member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, made headlines this past summer when she was hired by the Sacramento Kings, becoming just the second female assistant coach in NBA history. As a thank you to her new community, Lieberman turned to long-time friends and partners to create a place where Sacramento-area youth can pursue their love of basketball in a safe, inviting and inspiring environment.
Lieberman cut the ceremonial ribbon at the Sacramento opening accompanied by members of the Sacramento Kings, unveiling a two-hoop, 42-by-74-foot DreamCourt with Sport Court's PowerGame™ high-performance safety surface and the Kings' purple and gray team colors. This is the twenty-second DreamCourt built to date.
Special guests on hand at the ceremony included Sacramento Mayor and former NBA player Kevin Johnson who said, "Nancy Lieberman is a legend on the court, but the work she's doing in communities across the country is her real legacy. I thank Coach Lieberman for bringing DreamCourts to a section of our City in need and for impacting countless children's lives."
"Bringing DreamCourts to Del Paso Heights is a big deal for our community," said Sacramento Councilmember Allen Warren, also in attendance. "The brand new court will provide our young people a safe area to play basketball, interact socially, and stay active."
Joel McCausland, Sport Court regional director, offered Sport Court's beliefs that "children all around the world should have access to a safe place to play. This is why we partnered with the Nancy Lieberman Charities, the WorldVentures Foundation and the Sacramento Kings to build a DreamCourt in Sacramento. The city's kids now have a safe environment where honesty, respect, hard work, teamwork and fun merge together and are rewarded."
