Rockwell Razors Promises Five Years of Free Blades to Kickstarters If Second Fundraising Goal Succeeds
Student Startup, Rockwell Razors, Rewards Backers of Its Kickstarter Campaign If $500k Is Raised
TORONTO, Sept. 23, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Shaving startup, Rockwell Razors, follows up on the success of its fundraiser on Kickstarter with an offer to give its backers five years of free razor blades (#5YearsFreeBlades) if the campaign reaches its secondary funding goal of $500,000. Student entrepreneurs, Gareth Everard, 21, and Morgan Nordstrom, 20, created a Kickstarter campaign for the company's new stainless steel double-edge razor, the Rockwell 6S, and the campaign surpassed its original goal of $12,000 by 500% in its first week of funding.
After seeing their Kickstarter go viral, Everard and Nordstrom decided to offer their backers with an incredible gift for their support: if Rockwell Razors can achieve $500,000 in pledges, the company promises to gift each backer with 250 of its high quality double-edge razors – a five year supply of blades, for no additional cost. With 20 days left in its Kickstarter campaign, this offer is available to contributors worldwide, with free shipping across the globe. By offering their early buyers five years of free blades, Rockwell Razors will highlight the greed of the corporate shaving giants, saving each customer more than $1,000 on cartridges.
"The overwhelmingly positive response to our campaign has shown us that people really are sick of overpaying for razor cartridges, and they aren't even pleased with the quality of those products," says Everard, a fourth-year student at Western University. "We want to show the large shaving corporations that they've gotten greedy with consumers and ignorant with the environment, and it's going to cost them."
The company's mission is to help consumers customize their razors, save on buying cartridges and reinvent their shaves. The co-founders of Rockwell Razors designed the 6S Razor to eliminate the need to purchase blade cartridges, and reduce the cutting and burning often caused by modern razors. Rockwell's solution is a reengineered safety razor, which was the most popular shaving tool in the 1900s until large shaving corporations began marketing more profitable, disposable razors.
Unlike other razors, the Rockwell 6S design comes in six adjustable sizes, so every man can find his perfect shave. Everyone has unique skin and facial hair, and the Rockwell 6S Razor reflects that through providing its different shave sizes, which are small adjustments in the angle and gap between the blade and the razor. The smallest size is perfect for fine hair and shorter stubble, while the largest size is excellent for men with thicker, curly facial hair.
The double-edge razor blades used in the Rockwell Razor are a fraction of the cost of cartridge razors, and its recyclable blades and stainless steel components – all forged in the U.S. – will last a lifetime. Together, this provides enormous means of savings for consumers.
"The Rockwell 6S Razor Kickstarter has succeeded because there's such an undeniably massive demand for an innovative, well-made razor that delivers real value," Nordstrom explained. "We're happy to give the early adopters of the Rockwell 6S five years worth of blades because we can, and we want to. We're helping the public push back against inflated cartridge prices and find their perfect shave."
About Rockwell Razors
Rockwell Razors is a successfully funded student startup, manufacturing customizable safety razors in various sizes. Gareth Everard, a fourth-year science student, and Morgan Nordstrom, a third-year engineering student, founded the startup using rapid modeling to produce a series of 3D printed prototypes of the 6S Razor. They refined the design with successive shave-ready prototypes over months before reaching out to advanced manufacturers to validate their design and proceed with launching the fundraising campaign.
