In recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, When Georgia Smiled will debut its inaugural program, The Aspire Initiative, a domestic violence education curriculum, on upcoming episodes of the Dr. Phil show and The Doctors this October. This action-oriented initiative aims to reduce the level of intimate relationship violence in the US and instill the importance of bystander responsibility. The Aspire Initiative seeks to prevent the behavior before it begins, to stop whatever habits may already have begun, and offer safe exit strategies and resources for those in need.
This curriculum will be made available online, free of charge in both English and Spanish, to schools, youth groups, and other organizations that influence relationship conduct in age groups ranging from children and teens to adults.
"One in four women experience violence from their partners in their lifetimes, and that's millions of women too many," says McGraw. "There are many valuable programs to support those affected by domestic violence, and I believe that an interactive curriculum will be a powerful new tool in the fight. With this program, we will help prevent the patterns of domestic violence from occurring. This cause is one I have been involved with for many years, and something I am dedicating the next chapter of my life to."
