NORTHBRIDGE, Mass., Feb. 3, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Riverdale Mills Corporation has earned the USDA-certified BioPreferred Product Label for its MarineMax™ wire coatings. MarineMax is a fusible PVC powder coating made from renewable plant based materials compounded with thermoplastic resins and a range of special additives. The coating can be used on a variety of ferrous and non-ferrous metal substrates including carbon and galvanized steel. MarineMax is manufactured at Riverdale Mills' Northbridge, MA headquarters.
"We bring significant market knowledge of renewable and sustainable technologies as an alternative to the traditional range of petroleum-based PVC additives," said Riverdale CEO James Knott. "Biobased materials from renewable sources reduces our nation's reliance on petroleum, increases the use of renewable agricultural resources, and helps to ease pressure on the world's eco-systems." MarineMax is a durable exterior flexible PVC coating designed for the corrosion protection of wire mesh used in the marine, agricultural, aquaculture, fencing, and construction industries.
The USDA BioPreferred Product Label verifies that the amount of renewable biobased ingredients in a product meets or exceeds levels set by the USDA, and those products are composed, in whole or in significant part, of sustainable agricultural, forestry or marine ingredients.
Many flexible PVC coatings commonly contain petroleum-based phthalates. Phthalates are frequently used in hundreds of household and personal care products, and are most often used to soften and increase the flexibility of plastics. According to the United States' Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, human health effects from exposure to low levels of phthalates are unknown, and more research is needed to assess the human health effects of exposure to phthalates.
"Riverdale Mills has always been committed to producing technologically advanced, sustainable premium products which minimally impact the environment, and has purposely never used any of the now banned petroleum-based phthalates, including those listed in California Proposition 65 and Europe's REACH regulations, when formulating the Company's PVC compounds," said Knott.
Riverdale Mills is one of the world's leading producers of specialty PVC powder coating compounds. For over 35 years, Riverdale has developed a large library of formulas as well as extensive experience in formulating phthalate-free PVC compounds, which meet the demands of its customers.
RIVERDALE MILLS CORPORATION is one of the largest manufacturers of galvanized and PVC coated welded wire mesh in the world for the marine, aquaculture, security, and construction and farming industries.
