Quist was most recently head of security operations and engineering for Bechtel Corporation, the United States' largest construction and civil engineering company. He is also a leading expert in malware reverse engineering who has worked with MIT Lincoln Laboratory and Los Alamos National Laboratory.

He has served as a security researcher on malware reverse engineering and kernel development with MIT Lincoln Lab, Los Alamos National Laboratory and was founder and CEO of software and network security penetration testing firm Offensive Computing LLC.
