Richard Mourdock Earns Highest Endorsement from Political Action Arm of Nation's Oldest Taxpayer Group
ALEXANDRIA, Va., Oct. 11, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Hoosiers have a tremendous opportunity to send a true taxpayer advocate to Washington by voting to elect Richard Mourdock to the U.S. Senate. That's the assessment from National Taxpayers Union Campaign Fund (NTUCF), the political action arm of the 362,000-member National Taxpayers Union (NTU), which today announced Mourdock's election was a top priority among the many contests the group was following.
"Indiana can trust Richard Mourdock to deliver the common-sense solutions we need for tackling the toughest economic problems facing the state and the nation," said NTUCF President Duane Parde. "As the past several years have shown, fiscal policy in the Senate is a debacle that's imperiling our children's future. It will take vision and leadership to turn around the Senate's sorry record on taxpayer issues, and Richard Mourdock is the man for the job. Try as he might, Joe Donnelly cannot claim to be a true Indiana-style fiscal conservative."
According to Parde, many factors went into NTUCF's enthusiastic endorsement of Richard Mourdock, including his exemplary stewardship as the state's Treasurer and his blueprint to reduce federal spending by more than $7 trillion, thereby balancing the federal budget in 10 years without increasing taxes.
Additionally, Mourdock pledged support for the type of aggressive reforms needed to set America's finances on a sustainable course. On NTUCF's 2011-2012 Survey of Congressional Candidates (comprising 14 detailed fiscal policy questions), he made a "firm and unconditional commitment" to work and vote for Balanced Budget and Tax Limitation Amendments to the U.S. Constitution, entitlement reform, an end to the practice of "earmarking," and complete repeal of the U.S. Tax Code in favor of a fairer, simpler system.
Mourdock's opponent has earned three "F" and two "D" grades on National Taxpayers Union's annual Rating of Congress. This scorecard is based on every roll call vote affecting federal taxes, spending, debt, and regulation (typically 200-300 votes a year). Donnelly's average score on this Rating is a dismal 19 percent.
Note: NTUCF is the political action arm of National Taxpayers Union, the nation's oldest grassroots taxpayer organization. NTU, founded in 1969, created the NTU Campaign Fund in 1994. NTUCF's endorsement decisions require a unanimous vote on a nonpartisan basis by a four-member committee.
